Southern Inyo Healthcare District has partnered with UC Davis Health to build a quality wound care program in Lone Pine, CA. Our renowned experts are bringing advanced multidisciplinary wound care consultation to patients, no matter where they live.
Outpatient wound care programs are effective in treating chronic wounds, a condition that affects nearly 2.5% of the U.S. population – at least 6.7 million people. A five-year study reported by Medscape (“Wound Care Outcomes and Associated Cost Among Patients Treated in U.S. Outpatient Wound Centers”) demonstrates the impact of wound care clinics. Out of the 5,240 wound care patients treated over five years at U.S. outpatient wound clinics, 66.8 percent were healed by their final visit, according to data from the U.S. Wound Registry from 2005-2010.
Comprehensive Wound Evaluation and Treatment Plans
The SIHD Wound Care Program is designed to serve inpatient and outpatient needs, ensuring patients receive thorough wound assessment and tailored treatment plans. Some of the common types of wounds we treat include:
- Burns: Special care and treatments are available for burns to promote healing and reduce scarring.
- Insect Bites: Treatment to prevent infection and manage allergic or inflammatory responses.
- Diabetic Ulcers: Specialized care for individuals with diabetes to prevent infection and promote healing.
- Pressure Ulcers: Preventing and managing pressure sores to improve comfort and healing.
- Traumatic Wounds: Wounds resulting from cuts, abrasions, and lacerations.
- Surgical Wounds: Management of post-surgical wounds to reduce the risk of infection and complications.
- Venous Insufficiency: Treatment for wounds related to poor circulation, common in individuals with vein-related conditions.

Advanced Treatment Options and Services
Our wound care program utilizes evidence-based treatments and advanced technologies to support healing and comfort. These services include:
- Wound Consultation and Evaluation: A comprehensive evaluation that includes reviewing the patient’s medical history and current health status, understanding the wound’s characteristics, and determining an appropriate course of treatment.
- Specialty Wound Dressings: We provide advanced wound dressings that promote moisture balance, manage exudate, and create an optimal healing environment. These may include antimicrobial, foam, hydrogel, or other specialty dressings.
- Wound Infection Treatment: Infection can slow healing and increase complications. Our providers carefully assess each wound for signs of infection and prescribe appropriate antibiotics or antimicrobial treatments when necessary.
- Patient and Family Education: Our team guides home wound care, dietary recommendations for healing, and steps to prevent wound recurrence. This collaborative approach ensures that patients and their families are fully involved in the care process, enhancing outcomes and promoting independence.
- Ankle-Brachial Index Testing: This noninvasive test measures blood flow to the legs, indicating whether poor circulation contributes to wound healing delays. By identifying circulation issues, our providers can better improve blood flow.
- Pressure/Offloading Care: Pressure ulcers, known as bedsores, are caused by sustained pressure on certain body areas. Our team provides offloading techniques and tools, such as specialized cushions and mattresses.
