Quick Links
The Southern Inyo Hospital Emergency Department is a critical link in the chain of survival for our remote region. We serve patients from as far away as Death Valley as well as patients who are injured in the remote backcountry of the Inyo National Forest. We are committed to providing the highest quality of care to the residents and guests of our district.
A Lifeline in a Remote Region
Our Emergency Department allows us to adapt to changing patient volumes and demands.
The facility serves as a frontline emergency care provider for a large geographic area; without Southern Inyo Hospital, many of these patients would face delays in receiving medical care, with the closest major hospital facilities located an hour or more away.

Experienced and Dedicated Staff
Our Emergency Department is staffed by a team of highly skilled and compassionate healthcare professionals, all of whom are well-versed in the unique challenges of rural emergency medicine. Our nursing staff has specialized training to handle a broad spectrum of medical emergencies, from trauma to acute illnesses, and they work closely with our on-call physicians to ensure prompt and effective care.
In addition to our internal medical team, Southern Inyo Hospital benefits from the support of the Lone Pine Volunteer Fire Department, which operates three ambulances with local emergency medical technicians and paramedics. Their local knowledge and dedication provides a vital link between patients in need and the medical care available at Southern Inyo Hospital.
Transportation for High-Acuity Cases
While we are capable of handling many emergencies on-site, some patients require advanced care at larger medical centers. In these cases, we work closely with transport services to ensure patients are safely and efficiently transferred to the most appropriate facility.
Our ambulance services are primarily provided by the Lone Pine Volunteer Fire Department, but in cases where more urgent or specialized transport is necessary, we coordinate with air medical services. This ensures that patients with life-threatening injuries or illnesses receive the care they need as quickly as possible.

Certified Emergency Medical Personnel
All emergency medical personnel at Southern Inyo Hospital and our collaborating transport services are certified by the Inland Counties Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA).
Our team is committed to staying current on the latest best practices in emergency medicine, ensuring that we continue to provide safe and effective care for our patients.
